They watched as troops tortured and murdered their brothers, sisters, parents and children. Then they had to find their way from El Salvador and other parts of Central America through Mexico to the US. Once there, their memories and promises to those they left behind, living and dead, led them to organize such groups as the Salvadoran-American Leadership and Educational Fund to organize their communities and advocate for justice. These eight narratives are graphic, forthright and passionate, and those telling them are fully aware of their power.
