Plumb (emeritus, fisheries and allied aquacultures, Auburn U.) and Hanson (basic sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine, Mississippi State U.) present an updated edition of their text on host-pathogen-environment relationships that influence the susceptibility of cultured fish to viral and bacterial infectious diseases. The first section discusses the general principles of fish health maintenance and recognition, diagnosis, and control of infectious fish diseases. The remainder of the text addresses specific diseases, organized according to cultured fish groups primarily affected, with emphasis placed on geographical distribution, species susceptibility, clinical signs, etiological agents, descriptions and methods of detection, epizootiology, pathology, and significance of the disease. The authors have sought a balance between diseases of warmwater, coolwater, and coldwater fishes and, although much of the material concerns diseases important to North America, disease problems from other parts of the world are included.
