Cultural competence is the overall theme of this introduction to various perspectives in clinical psychology. This second edition includes interviews with nine experts in multicultural clinical work. In addition to material on culture integrated throughout the text, there are also culture boxes and an entire chapter devoted to cultural issues. This second edition offers expanded material on psychotherapeutic approaches, with individual chapters devoted to psychodynamic, humanistic, behavioral, cognitive, and group/family approaches. Boxes following a fictional therapy client show how the same client would be treated in each approach. There is also discussion of contemporary controversies such as prescription privileges, computer-aided treatment, and ethical issues. Learning features include chapter summaries, key terms and names, critical thinking questions, and a glossary. The text's student website includes review material, case studies, and SAGE journal articles with discussion questions, plus the full-length versions of interviews excerpted in book. A teacher website offers slides, activities, sample syllabi, and Internet and video resources. Pomerantz is affiliated with Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville.
