The Handbook comprises two volumes, available separately or as a set; they can be distinguised by their subtitles. This volume, subtitled Dynamics, Climate, Physical Meterology, Weather Systems, and Measurements, comprises 50 commissioned articles. One purpose of the reference is to inform general readers and decision makers of the science underlying phenomena such as the ozone hole, El Niño, droughts and floods, and hurricanes and tornados; to this end, each section begins with an overview chapter. Following are chapters offering technical treatment of interest to professionals and academicians in the atmospheric, hydrological, and environmental sciences. Editor Potter is a meterologist affiliated with the U. of Utah and the NOAA cooperative Instittue for Regional Prediction; Colman is affiliated with the National Weather Association in Seattle, the U. of Washington, and the U. of Idaho.
