This book reports on the results of the Pew Internet & American Life Project, a 24-question survey of technology leaders, scholars, social analysts, industry and government officials, and members of the general public on the future of the Internet. Some predictions include an attack on the networked information infrastructure in the next 10 years, an increase in government and business surveillance, and diminishing boundaries between work and leisure. The Project is a nonprofit, nonpartisan "fact tank" that explores the impact of the Internet on children, families, communities, the workplace, schools, healthcare, and civic and political life. The survey was conducted by Princeton Survey Research Associates, an independent research company that specializes in social and policy work. Elon University teamed with the Project to complete a number of research studies, including the building of the Early '90s Predictions Database, which is included here as an appendix. Rainie is director of the Pew Internet & American Life Project. Annotation ©2008 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
