Reddy (psychology, Rutgers U.) provides mental health practitioners, teachers, nurses, and others in schools with play therapy group strategies for helping children ages five through 12 learn social skills such as making friends, asking for and offering help, controlling movements, and using appropriate words. Introductory chapters address the research basis, how to include children with special needs, creating and establishing groups, instructional and behavioral management strategies, and the caregiver's role. These are followed by 43 group play skill sequences that use modeling, feedback, and role playing with adults and peers to teach children prerequisites for participating in group play interventions, then 67 interventions organized into teaching modules such as identifying and expressing emotions, following directions and impulse control, and the management of anger, anxiety and stress, planning, and time.
