This work brings together pharmacochemistry researchers who are working on rational drug design to highlight the variety of approaches being employed in this field, such as approaches that start by considering molecular mechanisms of drug action, approaches that focus on the metabolizing enzyme action occurring in the structure of a drug molecule, and approaches that start from the pathobiochemistry and pathophysiology of target diseases. They also consider drug development that makes use of already developed compounds stored in data banks. The book is divided into five sections on chemical, biochemical, and biological aspects of pathophysiological conditions; classical medicinal chemistry; drug design, chemical, and molecular aspects of drug action; drug xenobiotic metabolism; and physical organic and theoretical medicinal chemistry. Rekka and Kourounakis are both affiliated with the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki, Greece.
