Reyna and Zayas edit this volume on the neuroscience of risk and decision. The first part frames decision making as an economic process and discusses reward, impulsivity, and the influence of framing effects on risk preferences. The second part takes a developmental perspective on risk and reward, comparing reward processing and cognitive control in childhood, adolescence, and aging, addressing the relevant brain anatomy and system models, and proposing adaptive explanations for pre-adult differences. Finally, the neural correlates and stability over time of gratification delay are discussed and a new triple process model is proposed, adding a modulatory insula-based network to the traditionally balanced amygdala/striatum and PFC-based behavioral systems.
