A radio-frequency and microwave engineer in the aerospace industry, Rhea describes the design of practical lumped-element, distributed, and resonator-based filters from the perspective of transmission zeros. He writes primarily for users of the synthesis program Genesys S/Filter, but much of the information could be used by filter designers generally. He does not explain how to use the software. His emphasis is on common filter design problems and how to use direct synthesis to solve them. Among the topics are all-pole lowpass and highpass, lowpass with finite zeros, extraction sequences, bandpass with resonators, piezoelectric devices, symmetry, distributed filters, distributed bandstop filters, multiplexers, and electromagnetic simulation.
