Offering international perspectives, this collection of classic articles on deception in war hopes to spark a renaissance in the use of deception as an instrument of statecraft. Many of the articles are preceded by background on context and commentary on the article's significance in the literature on deception. Some themes include the ethics of political-military deception, theories and strategies of deception, tactical camouflage, ambush and counter ambush, and deception planning. Separate sections are devoted to naval, air, ground, and economic warfare, and one section is dedicated to the deception traditions of Britain, America, Russia, and China. The final section examines counterintelligence, counterespionage, and counter-deception planning. Many of the articles are facsimile copies, and some come with b&w photos and illustrations which have suffered in copying and recopying.
