Pushcart Prize-winning author Russell teaches writing at Western New Mexico University and has written previous books on natural history. Here, she chronicles one year of her observations of the Western red-bellied tiger beetle in southwestern New Mexico. She reports on observations on the micro-scale impact of climate change and reflects on what motivates people to become citizen scientists, who are non-professional volunteers collecting data on the natural world for large-scale research projects. She describes examples of research projects and programs that invite data from citizen scientists and looks at their potential for environmental activism. The book includes b&w photos of insects, other wildlife, and archaeological finds. Annotation ©2015 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR (protoview.com)
