Investigative reporter Russo has been involved in documentaries on the subject for both ABC and PBS, and makes use of his own interviews and of material released in response to the outcry after Oliver Stone's movie. His conclusion: Oswald alone shot Kennedy, probably in the service of or under the influence of the Cuban government, in order to end assassination attempts on Castro and forestall an imminent invasion of the island. The coverup served three broad interests: Johnson wanted to prevent a nuclear war that an outraged US public would likely demand; the Kennedys wanted to protect John's image; and the CIA wanted to hide its activities and methods.
