This text is a book-by-book analysis of the Bible by feminist biblical scholars. This American edition of the book is based on two earlier German editions. The scholarship is relatively recent and its selection favors historical critical orientations. Some contributors write on more than one book. Both the New and Old Testament are included, as well as Apocrypha and other non-canonical scripture, like the Gospel of Thomas. Each essay is different, but all provide an overview of the text and more focused analysis of issues of sex, gender, marriage, territory, history, paternity, displaying emotions, nature, sexuality, family structure, and more.
