The differences in this play between the Quarto of 1609 and the Folio of 1623 come down mostly to individual work choices, says Bevington, and he has weighed the possibility of authorial revision against the possibility of error in choosing which one to use any any particular case. However, he takes the Folio as his main source, noting that Troilus and Cressida is known to have been revised at least once. His 124-page introduction discusses such matters as the historical context of the last years of Elizabeth's reign, skeptical deflation of Trojan honor and chivalry, male obsessions about honor and sexuality, and the commercial and subjective valuation of identity and worth.
