Shead (Old Testament and biblical theology, Centro de Estudios Pastorales, Santiago, Chile) set out to study the concept of righteousness in the Hebrew Bible, but admits that by the time he completed his 2009 PhD dissertation for the University of Sydney, revised for this volume, he had only managed to lay the groundwork for such a study. By combining methods of frame semantics and cognitive linguistics, he has developed a new methodology for lexical semantics in biblical Hebrew. His topics include structural semantics and semantic fields; from typology to radical construction grammar; frame semantics and frame-net; applying the framework to biblical Hebrew; and a cognitive analysis of exploring, searching, and seeking.
