The relationship between cognition and alcohol consumption remains controversial. In this book, international researchers review the latest work on fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, and present current research on acute and chronic effects of alcohol on cognitive function in adults. Some specific subjects covered include non-invasive neuroimaging in fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, and mental health disorders comorbid with fetal alcohol syndrome. Other topics examined include attentional lapses due to alcohol influence, driving and flying with a hangover, executive function and social cognition in alcoholism, Korsakoff syndrome, and alcohol and HIV infection. The editors call for further research on alcohol, impulsivity, and suicide. The book will be of interest to students and professionals in the medical and mental health fields. Sher teaches psychiatry at Columbia University. Kandel teaches social sciences at the Ariel University Center of Samaria, Israel.
