Providing advice to mental health professionals working in Texas, this work is intended to make the professional an "intelligent consumer of legal services," as well as provide a description of the legal mandates and standards governing professional practice in the state. As in other volumes of the series, three sections initially discuss the legal credentialing of mental health professionals, the legal business forms used in professional practice, the maintenance and privacy of professional information, and liability for unethical and illegal behavior. The remaining four sections examine other areas of law as they relate to mental health service provision, discussing the statutes and regulations regarding adults, minors, and families; other civil matters; civil and criminal court proceedings; criminal matters; and issues of voluntary versus involuntary provision of mental health services. The author is a professor of law at Southern Methodist University. Annotation ©2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
