Newspaper editor Soga (1873-1957) was arrested on the day of the Pearl Harbor attack, one of 1,466 Hawai'i Japanese imprisoned during World War II, and returned from camps on the mainland in November 1945. His daily journal of observations and experiences, presented here, offers the rare view of a first-generation Japanese immigrant ineligible for citizenship, rather than a US citizen whose parents or even grandparents had immigrated. A few explanatory footnotes are included, but no index. Annotation ©2008 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
