Italian scientists analyze the role of asbestos in the epidemiology of mesothelioma in the central study. Other medical, biological, and environmental researchers consider the deposition of man-made fibers in the human respiratory airway, the number of plasmids transported into Escherichia coli through the Yoshida effect and predicted structure of the penetration-intermediate (by Naoto Yoshida), and auto-antibody profiles of an asbestos-exposed population. An August 2006 report from the Congressional Research service assesses prospects for legislative resolution of asbestos litigation, and short commentaries look at the comparative efficiency of tests for exposure to carcinogens, the new asbestos-related disease retroperitoneal fibrosis, endemic pleural plaques and mesotheliomas in northern Greece, and immunological effects of asbestos.
