Sowell (a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution, Stanford U.) is an influential African American libertarian/conservative economist and political writer perhaps most famous for his opposition to affirmative action. In this volume, he gathers excerpts of his personal and intellectual correspondence from 1960 to 2006, together with a few examples of other writings, all interspersed with explanatory notes. The letters show the trajectory of his educational career and document his exchanges with such figures as Milton Friedman, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas (who was deeply influenced by Sowell's Race and Economics), Bell Curve author Charles Murray, and Condoleeza Rice.
