Published by the Washington State Historical Society in conjunction with the centennial anniversary of women's suffrage in the state and a related traveling exhibit, this illustrated volume summarizes the state's suffrage movement and profiles key leaders in it. It recounts how women in Washington won the vote in 1880, only to lose it through court decisions, and then regained it in 1910 as only the fifth state to do so. The concluding chapters follow women's subsequent achievements with the Equal Rights Amendment and Title IX, and key women in the state's history. Stevenson, a historian from Washington, is the coordinator of the Washington Women's History Consortium project, an initiative led by the Washington State Historical Society to preserve and provide resources about women's history.
