The loading chute is an important structure in the West; it is where the cattle arrive on the ranch and where they are shipped out to the feedlots or to the summer ranges. Old-time loading chutes dot the western landscape but they are quickly deteriorating. They are being used less and less and have almost become western folk art.

 

In this book, David R. Stoecklein presents images of loading chutes throughout the western landscape. The loading chute is a part of the design and culture of the American West and has never been documented in this way. David has photographed loading chutes of all different sizes and designs—some are store-bought, some are homemade, and all of them are integral pieces of equipment for ranch owners.
