Complementing the second edition of The Parallel Curriculum, this step-by-step handbook helps facilitators plan and conduct training for educators on the four curriculum parallels: the core curriculum, the curriculum of connections, the curriculum of practice, and the curriculum of identity. The handbook's workshops cover the spectrum from an introduction to the parallel curriculum model, to using multiple parallels. In each chapter, teachers will remodel or design lessons they currently teach by applying the characteristics of the parallel curriculum model within each of the four parallels. A final chapter explores how each of the four parallels might come together in a single unit. Facilitator scripts, activities, sample classroom scenarios, handouts, and transparencies are included, along with lists of tools, resources, and strategies for designing curriculum across the four parallels. An appendix provides an overview of the intent and characteristics of the four parallels. The book can be used for facilitating book study groups, seminars, and professional development events with elementary and secondary teachers.
