These thirteen essays on narratives of "selfhood" in the arts have been contributed to this volume in honor of Patricia Meyer Spacks, a Yale English professor who has written many books and monographs on 18th century literature. Editors Swenson (postdoctoral fellow, Bill and Carol Fox Center for Humanistic Inquiry, Emory U.) and Lauterbach (English, Rhodes College, Memphis) have collected articles from such writers and scholars as Gordon Turnbull, Jill Campbell and Margery Sabin on such topics as formal realism in Edgeworth's books for children, the censoring of restoration comedies for the 18th century stage and modern variations on the themes of privacy and the self. A working bibliography and discography is also supplied for students, scholars and fans of Spacks' work. Distributed by Associated University Presses.
