In this book, authors Swift and Greenberg examine the phenomenon of premature termination in psychotherapy, focusing on understanding the scope of the problem and providing strategies for reducing early termination. Among factors contributing to premature termination, they discuss several patient predictors. Further, they discuss, at length, eight strategies for arresting premature termination, specific to client models, including provision of role induction, incorporation of client treatment preferences, assisting client in planning for appropriate termination, and strengthening client hope. Swift is a faculty member of the University of Alaska Anchorage. Greenburg is a faculty member of the State University of New York, Syracuse.
