Focused on the U.S. National Wildlife Refuge System, this book is a reprint of reports GAO-08-797 and GAO-08-1179T issued to Congress by the Government Accountability Office. GAO was asked to assess funding, staffing, habitat management, and visitor services from fiscal years 2002 to 2007. During the preparation of the first report all refuges were surveyed, nineteen refuges in four regions were visited, and officials at various levels interviewed. The second report is only sixteen pages long and is an augmented reprint of testimony by Robin M. Nazzaro (director of Natural Resources and Environment of the GAO).
