Ten British novelists allowed themselves to be interviewed for this collection, eight men and two women. They represent the various "waves" of style from 1979 to the present. Tew (English, Brunel University UK) Tolan (English, Liverpool John Moores University) and Wilson (English literature, University of Westminster) state that they wish to "provide a place where the ideas that inform writing and writers are once more central." Therefore the interviews are in the form of transcripts that the interviewees have read and approved. Each is followed by a short overview of the author's work and relevance and a bibliography. The questions asked are those every author gets asked a hundred times over. When did you start writing? Who do you read? Do you read reviews of your work? Who influenced you?
