Five volumes will document relations between the sibling faiths from 600 to 1500, focusing geographically on the extended Mediterranean basin. The series collects documented accounts of all the known works written by Christians and Muslims about and against one another. It is intended as a starting point for deeper study into the works and authors, and whatever relationship exists between them, paving the way for a full and detailed history of Christian-Muslim relations. The entries, alphabetical by author, include dates and places of birth and death if known, a biography, and the main primary and secondary sources of information. Then relevant works are then treated with date and language, description, significance, manuscripts, editions and translations, and modern studies. This volume includes introductory essays discussing the Western narratives of the First Crusade, Christians in early and classical Shi'i law, and Muslims in Western canon law 1000-1500. This monumental reference is durable and well bound. Annotation ©2011 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
