Thomson, a longtime physicist who joined the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory in 1951 and participated in five nuclear weapons tests in Nevada, is also a founder of the Los Alamos Committee on Arms Control and International Security, which supports the arms control process. He first wrote this comprehensive report which provides an overview of Cold War nuclear arms buildup and of the principal negotiated arms control treaties as of 2000 to provide staff at the Los Alamos National Laboratory with summaries of existing treaties and proposed agreements, as well as information on verification procedures.
