Students of kendo and general readers interested in Japanese swordsmanship will welcome this introduction to the marshal art written by an advanced practitioner and illustrated with hundreds of sketches. Beginning with the history of kendo, the book details the care and use of basic equipment, regulations and rules, injury prevention, and technique and forms including the rare two-sword form largely unknown outside of Japan. The manual concludes with biographies of Japan's best known swordsmen, a glossary of terms, and a history of kendo in Hawaii where it has been practiced for more than a century. The book is a revised, and enlarged version of Tokeshi's earlier publication Aiea Taiheiji Kendo Manua (1995) , containing additional illustrations, new rules and regulations, and the Nihon Kendo Kata.
