The University of North Texas has developed a process for redesigning large-enrollment undergraduate introductory classes. This book provides a theoretical foundation for course redesign based on assessment-driven experiential learning, illustrated with examples from the University's Next Generation Course Redesign Project. Turner, a learning enhancement specialist at the University, and Carriveau, an educational psychologist assisting the Next Generation Project, make a case for radically transforming teaching and learning in general education courses and offer guidelines for institution-wide change, addressing issues such as training, incentives, and changing the reward structure for tenured and tenure-track faculty.
