In response to the outbreak of foot and mouth disease in the Netherlands in Spring 2001, the Wageningen U. and Research Center helped organize a workshop designed to address the concerns of agricultural and rural stakeholders and integrate scientific expertise. The workshop produced this report, which addresses conflicting values in land use, determines social-psychological and economic impacts of the outbreak, studies future economic and epidemiological possibilities, and presents a framework for assessing policy options.
