This volume explores the nature of oppression and injustice, describing a framework for doing so, the skills of critical analysis to confront oppression and injustice, examples of successful programs, and the link between oppression and injustice configuration and strategies of empowerment. The authors consider oppression and its consequences and proposed remedies, including definitions of key concepts, biological and psychosocial factors in dominance, the phenomenon of privilege, the treatment of marginalized populations in the US through specific ideologies, economic oppression and distributive justice and poverty, and models and principles of policy analysis. The second section looks at injustice in a human rights framework, international monitoring organizations and local initiatives, and the use of restorative justice as an alternative to the adversarial model.
