From the Johnson administration's attempt to promote a settlement between Israel and Egypt in 1968, to the outbreak of the Yom Kippur War in 1973, this work covers the inside story of the Middle East peace process under Nixon's regime. Vanetik (history, Achva Academic College) and Shalom (Ben-Gurion U.) rely in part on recently declassified documents to show, for example, how then National Security Adviser Henry Kissinger undermined the State Department's attempt to negotiate an interim agreement between Israel and Egypt in 1971. Since the authors are both at Israeli universities, they were also able to access unique sources that show another side to the peace process. The bibliography includes works found in archives, as well as books and dissertations in Hebrew. Annotation ©2014 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR (protoview.com)
