The Tree Shelter, a stone formation, is not under trees neither does it shelter trees, but an acacia tree is visible from it, down past where the short wadi it overlooks drains into the Wadi Sodmein. The excavations were carried out during the second half of the 1990s, and the report discusses details of the field work itself, the microwear analysis of some artefacts from archaeological horizon five (which overlaps the predynastic period), woody vegetation and its use during the neolithic, and faunal remains. One major conclusion is that the timing of occupation at the site generally paralleled that of sites in the Western Desert, but settlement in the Nile Valley followed a totally different sequence.
