William "Bill" Wingate Sewall, a Maine hunting guide and lumberman skilled in the ways of the wilderness, first met Theodore Roosevelt in 1878, when Roosevelt was an asthmatic city boy from Harvard. These two men from different backgrounds formed a lifelong bond that helped transform Roosevelt into a leader. Although two biographies of Roosevelt draw on quotes and stories from Sewall, and although Sewall wrote a book about his adventures with Roosevelt, Sewall has been lost to history for decades. Vietze, a registered Maine Guide himself, returns him to the public eye. The book is illustrated with b&w historical photos. Vietze is a ranger in Baxter State Park and editor at large for Down East magazine. Annotation ©2010 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
