Wagman examines the Cave of the Nymphs on the Karapla hill in light of its little-known geographical setting, which he says is relevant not only to reconstructing the site's physical features, but also to the cultural and socio-economic associations that made it a dominion of the local Nymphs. He covers the geography and landscape, the site, the votives, and the inscriptions. Though Thessaly in more associated with Nymph lore than any other part of Greece, little physical evidence of the cult remains, he says, so the Karapla cave constitutes a crucial resource for studying Thessalonian religion.
