The Progress and Change Evaluation (PACE) monitor is an assessment program designed to screen and evaluate the progress of judicial clients in substance abuse treatment programs. PACE is composed of instruments and methods that evaluate clients in domains such as mental health, criminal conduct, and family relationships. PACE was developed to be used with the treatment curriculum Criminal Conduct and Substance Abuse Treatment Strategies for Self Improvement and Change. This handbook provides guidelines and instruments for implementing PACE. An introduction overviews the convergent validation model, the conceptual framework upon which PACE is based. Section I of the handbook contains five parts, and describes various methods, procedures, and instrument used in PACE. This section also provides the scoring procedures for each of the instruments and brief descriptions of the instrument and instrument scales. Section II provides the specific instruments that are used in PACE. Pages are perforated for easy copying. A subject index is not provided. Wanberg is director of the Center for Addictions Research and Evaluation. Milkman is professor of psychology at Metropolitan State College of Denver.
