For students, human resources and educational administrators, educators, policy makers, social scientists, and the general public, Webb and Norton (Arizona State U.) explore the current challenges facing human resources administration in public education in the US as related to the traditional topics in the field, from planning to recruitment to legal aspects. All chapters in this edition have been revised, and some tables and figures have been deleted, while new ones have been added. Chapters on organizational climate and the human resources function and the support personnel program have been deleted, and information has been integrated into other chapters. The recruitment chapter has been revised to include more on international recruitment and the increased use of the internet, as well as strategies for recruiting for diversity and hard-to-staff schools. It has a new chapter on placement and induction and revised sections on background checking and interviewing. Material in the chapter on maximizing human performance has been integrated into new chapters on induction and motivation. Other revised topics include performance evaluation, selection, and the use of performance measures. There is more focus on developing more rigorous evaluation systems and the linking of teacher and administrator performance to that of students, as well as renewed focus on the push for performance-based pay. Discussion of interest-based bargaining, the legal framework for public schools, and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission discrimination complaint process has been added.
