Less attention has been paid to dissociative disorders in children and adolescents than in adults. A clinical psychologist in private practice in Victoria, B.C., who is the director of the International Society for the Study of Trauma/Dissociation, compiles eight case studies with discussion of theory and practice. An introductory chapter overviews the causes and symptoms of dissociation in this underserved population. Wieland concludes that although these young patients may resort to dissociative mechanisms again under stress, a stronger core self developed in therapy will help them cope better.
