In this sturdy volume, Wild-Wood, a tutor in the Cambridge Theological Federation, presents a social history analysis of the migration of Anglicans in northeastern Congo and the impact on their Christian identity. She claims that migration brings change by providing immigrants with new experiences that affect their identity, and that religious identity provides them with stability and flexibility during the transition. Focusing on a single mission denomination, she uses oral narratives of members of the Eglise Anglicane du Congo (Anglican Church of Congo) to understand this identity change and the affecting socio-religious dynamics, as well as discussing the history of the church since 1896, women and youth experiences, and the interaction between the church and the growing Pentecostal movement. She does not address conversion and its relationship to indigenous worldviews in detail. Annotation ©2009 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
