This is the first of four volumes of a comprehensive manual of Egyptian pottery. In each volume, Wodzinska (Egyptology, U. of Warsaw, Poland) provides basic explanations of terminology and pottery methods before giving hundreds of examples of types of pottery found at different sites, mostly on the Giza Plateau. For each she lists the exact site, material, shape (with a drawing), how it was made, the surface, dating and references for further study. The volume concludes with a bibliography and a section of color plates of representative examples. This series will be tremendously useful for Egyptologists in the field and in the lab to identify pottery artifacts. Not indexed, the volumes are distributed in North America by The David Brown Book Co. Annotation ©2009 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
