This annual report from the World Bank examines the South Asia region's economies and its recovery from the global economic crisis. The report finds that South Asia's strong rebound since March 2009 is comparable to that in East Asia, and that government policy, external support, resumption of private spending, and the global recovery are driving the rebound, as well as South Asia's strengths and forms of global integration. It examines and recommends three directions to reposition the region's trade and investment integration policies and profitability after the crisis: intensify integration with East Asia, accelerate trade and investment and reduce the border barriers between countries in the region, and preserve links with high-income markets in Europe and North America and other emerging markets in an open regionalism framework. Specific country analyses are provided in the appendix. There is no index. Annotation ©2011 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
