This report from The World Bank examines the importance of economic geography and how density, distance and division of workers and businesses are related to the development of trade and success in the international marketplace. Beginning with the concept that half of the world's production takes place on 1.5% of its land, the report explains how geographical disadvantages can increase poverty rates dramatically. The report concludes, however, that a strengthening of an economy begins with basic services such as education, health and sanitation before moving into more ambitious projects concerning transportation and communications.
