The KidsKope Peer Mentoring Programme pairs younger children (ages 9-13) with older children (14-18) to help the younger ones to deal with bullying, parental separation, racism, the immigration experience, and other difficult situations. This book contains ideas and activities for five, two-hour training sessions for mentors as they learn to conduct a one-day workshop for mentees. The book begins with a rationale for the program, tips on training mentors, and background research on mentoring, children’s experiences of conflict, and the benefits of creativity and play; one chapter is devoted to theory supporting the activities. The rest of the book presents activities such as games, role playing, relaxation and visualization, and breathing techniques, which the mentors will use with mentees. The book’s many reproducibles include planning sheets, letters to teachers and parents, and program evaluation instruments. B&w drawings are included.
