This resource for technologists, neurology residents, and clinical neurophysiology fellows presents essentials of electroencephalography (EEG) technology and interpretation: basic electronics, and recording and interpretation techniques commonly used in EEG labs, illustrated with about 500 b&w figures. The book begins with a historical perspective, then covers basic technology for EEG, electronics and electric safety, digital EEG, and functional anatomy and basic physiology as they relate to EEG. The next sections cover principles underlying visual analysis of EEG, with descriptions of normal and abnormal EEG patterns and commonly used activation procedures. Subsequent sections discuses techniques for evaluating epilepsy and diffuse and focal abnormalities. An entire chapter is dedicated to benign EEG patterns. The book concludes with a chapter on premature and full-term infants. A companion web site includes a question bank and a video showing how to place electrodes. Yamada teaches neurology at the University of Iowa. Annotation ©2010 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
