This book describes an imaging system used in electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) measurements of experimental animals such as rats and mice. A background chapter gives information on principles of EPR, basic components of the EPR spectrometer, and the purpose of in vivo EPR spectroscopy. Later chapters explain theory, instruments, data processing, and applications of EPR imaging, in enough detail so that readers can build the apparatus and obtain data. The last chapter describes region-selected intensity determination (RSID), a novel method that allows estimation of in vivo reducing ability at a selected anatomical region without complications of previous EPR imaging methods. Yokoyama is affiliated with the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the International University of Health and Welfare, Japan. Annotation ©2009 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
