The editors (a pair of feminist legal studies professors at the U. of British Columbia and two directors of the Poverty and Human Rights Centre, both institutions in Canada) present 18 papers that explore the current picture of social, legal, and political anti-poverty activism in Canada. A number of the contributions focus specifically on the Canadian Supreme Court's 2002 decision in Gosselin v. Quebec (Attorney General), in which the court rejected a Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms challenge against the Quebec government's law that excluded citizens under 30 from receiving social security benefits and the legal landscape it has left behind. Others focus on concerns centering on the concept of social citizenship in Canadian and comparative international contexts. Distributed in the US by the U. of Washington Press.
