China's printing and packaging sector has been growing by about 10% per year, and is now the world's third largest, but it continues to be labor intensive and technology poor, and lacks academic and independent research support. In response, a number of institutions collaborated on this conference, hoping it will be the first of a regular series to inspire and report research. About 125 papers look at color science and technology, image processing technology, technical study and standardization, mechanical engineering and automation control, paper and printability, ink technology, packaging materials, and printing history. The topics include an efficient reconstruction method of spectral color information, a robust digital watermarking algorithm based on digital image security, a dynamic design method based on measuring information for a printing press, preparing non-micropore latex particles, and the early spread of traditional hand-made paper in East Asia countries.
