This manual provides step-by-step guidance for companies in all sectors of the economy that must comply with ISO 14001 and/or EMAS (the European Eco-Management and Audit Scheme). Emphasis is on how to collect quantitative data, starting with material and energy flows through the company, and how to understand indicators for energy, transportation, and water use. The included CD-ROM contains a template for the environmental review, an inventory tool to calculate emissions and environmental impact, and a method for identifying the company's significant environmental aspects. This work has appeared in four Swedish editions since 1998, published in Sweden by IVF Industrial Research and Development Corporation, where two of the three authors are employed (the third is with Transport Research Institute, Sweden). Its first publication in English was in 2002 under the title: Template for Initial Environmental Review. The current edition is distributed in the US by Stylus.
